College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. The MCG educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, with regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state, and two four-year campuses located in Athens (in partnership with the University of Georgia) and in Savannah (in partnership with Georgia Southern University). MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provide more than 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to approximately 575 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

Responsible for maintaining systems and equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules; restoring, repairing, rebuilding, or replacing faulty or inoperative components and parts; evaluating functionality and reliability of facility systems and associated research equipment by conferring with operating departments and research faculty. Identifying problems and requirements; fabrication of complex mechanical and electrical research support equipment

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Install, repair and certify various types of laboratory research equipment including but limited to: Refrigeration devices, cryogenic freezers, fume hoods, laminar airflow devices, carbon dioxide incubators, orbital incubators, refrigerated centrifuges, cell washers, rockers, nutators, shakers, stirrers, autopsy saws, gurneys, dental drills, articulating overhead surgical lamps, glucose meters, luminometers, microscopes, microscope light sources, ovens, autoclaves, DNA polymerase chain reaction thermal cyders, microtomes, cryostats, tissue sample wax embedders, hyper-/hypoxia chambers, desiccator chambers, cell counters, heated water baths, electrophoresis power supplies, electrophoresis trays, sterilizers, ultrapure water purifiers, gas/air operated anti-vibration tables, air/vacuum pumps, gas safety monitors, liquid nitrogen cryo-storage systems, compressed gasses delivery systems; and vacuum, air, electric, and water services at the point of use.

Based on individualized consultation with research faculty provide custom fabrication of research equipment and accessories using, but not limited to: XYZ milling machine, CAD milling machine, small parts metal lathe, Engine lathe, MIG welder/ TIG welder, Sand blasting, Horizontal band saw, Vertical band saw, High speed
polishing, Table saw, chemical fume hood, aluminum anodizer, manual press, turret punch.

Participate in the coordinate tracking, perform repairs and/or yearly recertification, and facilitate billing of biological safety cabinets (BSCs). Through the use of thermal anemometers, spectrophotometers, and direct inflow measurement equipment test BSC's in accordance with manufacture standards and/or NSF to include Down flow, Inflow, HEPA Filter challenge, Smoke test, Site assessment, lighting, Sound, Vibration and electrical. Instruct staff on proper use of equipment.

Perform all other related duties as assigned, including ordering parts and supplies by supervision.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma/GEDfrom a state or federal accrediting organization and a minimum of three years of applicable Electronic / Electromechanical maintenance experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree from an accredited technical college or university in electronic technology and five years of experience in electronic maintenance.

Experience with custom fabrication of research equipment and accessories using, but not limited to: XYZ milling machine, CAD milling machine, small parts metal lathe, engine lathe, MIG welder/TIG welder, sand blasting, horizontal band saw, vertical band saw, high speed polishing, table saw, chemical fume hood, aluminum anodizer, manual press, and/or turret punch.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Basic knowledge of AC, DC, and semiconductor electronics.

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Detail-oriented with strong customer service, electronic/mechanical troubleshooting, technical understanding and teamwork skills.

ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to diagnose and repair electronic equipment; read and interpret schematic documents; and use a multimeter and oscilloscope. Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and service manuals for assigned equipment and systems.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Pay Band: B8

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
