Overview

This role is intended for experienced civil design professionals who can manage their own projects with minimal oversight. The Project Manager I is expected to take ownership of project scheduling, budgeting, billing, and team leadership responsibilities. The role includes managing one to two design engineers while continuing to deepen project management capabilities with mentorship from senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage the design, scheduling, and delivery of civil site development projects from planning through construction.
• Collaborate with senior managers to handle project billing, budgeting, and proposal preparation.
• Oversee, train, and evaluate one to two junior team members.
• Conduct and document employee performance evaluations in collaboration with senior leadership.
• Perform quality control and quality assurance reviews on design plans and supporting documentation.
• Lead coordination efforts with consultants, municipalities, and contractors.
• Prepare and review project deliverables including grading plans, utility layouts, drainage systems, feasibility reports, and cost estimates.
• Conduct field inspections, client meetings, and project reviews as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7+ years of experience in civil site development and design (or 5+ years of design experience with 1+ year as a Project Engineer).
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
• California PE license (required).
• Strong technical proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design tools (e.g., HydroCAD, WaterCAD, AutoTurn).
• Demonstrated understanding of hydrology, stormwater quality, utility layout, and geotechnical concepts.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills.
• Commitment to high ethical standards and professional integrity.

Path to Advancement

• After 2+ years in the role, eligible for promotion to Project Manager II by demonstrating independent management of multiple projects and oversight of 2–4 team members.
