**Senior Scientist, Microbiome & Hygiene** **Location: San Diego, CA** DSM-Firmenich is a leading global provider of innovative solutions in nutrition, health, and sustainable living. We are seeking a highly motivated PhD Scientist with robust background in microbiome/microbiology research (skin microbiome preferred) to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing our understanding of the microbiome and developing innovative solutions to address challenges in human health and beauty, and sustainable living. **Key Responsibilities:** - Lead research projects focused on understanding the microbiome's functional roles in human health and beauty to enable and deliver innovative solutions to our businesses. - Identify and develop cutting edge capabilities and leverage them to design and execute in-vitro studies to build knowledge, gain new mechanistic understanding, develop innovative solutions, and/or enable novel claims. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate microbiome data with other omics and clinical data; develop and optimize assays for microbiome analysis, including bacteria culture, cell culture, flow cytometry, and advanced data analysis. - Stay abreast of the latest developments in microbiome research and contribute to scientific publications and presentations. - Provide technical guidance and support to team members. - Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, instrument maintenance. **We bring:** - Empowerment to make meaningful contributions while upholding ethical standards. - Recognition and celebration of your efforts and accomplishments. - Opportunities for growth and advancement for those who embrace innovation and take initiative. - Collaboration with experts in health, nutrition, and beauty to drive progress. - Dedication to creating better futures for customers, communities, people, and the planet. - Supportive environment where individuals are empowered to progress and contribute to meaningful change. **You bring:** - Ph.D. in Microbiology/Microbial Ecology or in a closely related life science field. - 3+ Years of industry experience with a robust scientific understanding of microbiomes & their interactions with hosts. - Human microbiome (preferred skin microbiome) lab experience is required; proven track record of designing and executing complex experiments in microbiology. Experience in culture-based microbial assay development as well as molecular biology approaches (i.e. PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, sequencing). Experience in microbial strain and sample library building. - Demonstrated ability to develop scientific hypotheses and design and execute proof of concept studies. - Experience analyzing multi-omics data (metagenomic, meta-transcriptomic, metabolomic). R, Python, and cloud-based platforms is a plus. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets. - Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds. - Ability to work under deadlines and be agile. _Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant's job-related skills, experience, relevant education and training.
